Mack Park Food Farm
City of Salem’s Health Department
Salem, Massachusetts
The Mack Park Food Farm is a municipal farm and food forest in Salem, MA that was transformed from an unused baseball field into a site that produces thousands of pounds of produce every year. Made possible through the Bright Cities Program and the Mayor’s Innovation Project, the project consists of growing organic produce to address issues of food insecurity in Salem, relying on local volunteers and agricutlural leaders to maintain the project and feed the community. With additions such as rain capturing pond and a free farmer’s market, the farm continues to grow in how they engage with sustainable food accessibility, engaging residents throughout the process. By using neglected land for a healthy production site, Salem showcases how local cities can engage vacant lots for powerful uses. More About This Project » Also see Facebook and Instagram
