FLINT, MI – The Center for Community Progress (Community Progress) Board of Directors today appoint Vice President and Director of National Leadership and Education Courtney Knox to serve as the interim president and chief executive of the organization, effective immediately.

As interim president, Knox will continue to ensure organizational continuity as the Board of Directors commences its search for a permanent president. Knox has been with Community Progress since the organization opened its doors in 2010. With nearly two decades of experience in equitable neighborhood revitalization, she brings a strong background in understanding the root causes of vacancy and abandonment, and equitable solutions needed to create safe, healthy, resilient, inclusive neighborhoods. In her current role, she is responsible for the strategic direction, vision, growth, and performance of Community Progress’ most visible, high-impact initiatives.

This appointment follows Dr. Akilah Watkins’ decision to step down after more than five years leading Community Progress, for a previously announced opportunity.
