The Land + Water WORKS Coalition is a collective of environmental stewards dedicated to a more equitable, more climate-resilient future for Detroit through research, education, outreach, technical assistance, installation, and advocacy. Coalition members are policy advocates, urban farmers, community organizers, rain garden experts, and energy and water conservationists. They work to increase understanding of the water system and build widespread awareness of the social, environmental, and economic benefits of green stormwater infrastructure. They also support the development of GSI, including rain gardens, disconnecting downspouts, and setting up rain catchment for reuse. All of this is critical to face the challenges of an aging wastewater infrastructure and reduce the impacts on the most vulnerable citizens.
The Coalition is an example of building collective power to influence policy and investment around green stormwater infrastructure.
