The Washington Heights Land Re-Use Strategy seeks to revitalize the Neighborhood Planning Council 2 (NPC2) area of Battle Creek, Michigan. Led by the Calhoun County Land Bank Authority through a 3-year WK Kellogg Foundation grant, accomplishing demolitions, 2 new-builds, a 911 cell tower and providing resources demystifying the redevelopment process. The land bank was guided by an advisory board made up of NPC2 stakeholders to develop the strategy for future re-use. The project explores how land banks can facilitate a stewardship project led by local residents to transform lots for building neighborhood wellbeing.
